Our focus is selling the current work by the artists we represent. As a gallery, we are not actively accepting resales.
We are located in The Galleries of Peachtree Hills adjacent to ADAC.
TEW Galleries was started in 1987 by Timothy Tew and is today recognized as a leading Atlanta contemporary art gallery. Timothy was introduced to art in high school. After graduating from college with a music degree in piano, he studied interior decoration and design. This led to working in the home furnishings industry and then moving to Paris in 1986. There he studied French, drawing and art history, and roamed the museums honing his eye. He also discovered a handful of artists who reflected his aesthetic values and knew he had to act.
When he returned to Atlanta a year later, he began promoting the artists and putting on shows wherever he found opportunities. He opened his first gallery space as Galerie Timothy Tew in 1989 and began adding artists from the United States, England and Germany, many who are still represented by the gallery. In 2005, the gallery changed its name to TEW Galleries and moved to a uniquely beautiful three-story townhouse in The Galleries of Peachtree Hills in Buckhead.
TEW Galleries has established a reputation for exhibiting artists with national and regional reputations and for representing painters, artists and sculptors who work in a range of styles from abstract to figurative.
Jules Bekker was born in Durban, South Africa and grew up in Natal. She received her Bachelors of Fine Art in art history and painting from the Natal College of Arts and Technology. After graduating she returned to college for another three years to study photography. She and her husband immigrated to the United States in 1986. In 2005, after having managed a contemporary art gallery for several years and then working for more than a decade in magazine publishing, where she was promoted to vice president / publisher, Jules joined TEW Galleries as gallery director. In addition to managing the gallery’s business, she is actively involved in exhibition curation and artist development. She is also in charge of marketing, which includes public relations, advertising and printed collateral.
Corky Davis was born in San Antonio, Texas and also lived in Hawaii. He received his BS in microbiology from the University of Texas and his BSN in nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio. He moved to Atlanta in 1986 and began his career in nursing. A long-standing love of art, the establishment of his own art collection and a background in sales brought him to the gallery world and to TEW Galleries in 1998. He has been sales director since 2004. In addition to helping maintain the gallery's close relationship with clients, he provides valuable feedback for business decisions, assists with the selection of artworks and manages show installation.
Since 1987 TEW Galleries has sold thousands of artworks. As a result, insurance evaluations have become a daily request. To absorb the time this takes TEW Galleries no longer does these for free. The charge is $75 for the first item and $50 per item thereafter. Certified appraisers will be charged $25 per item.
We cannot provide any valuations for artists no longer represented by TEW Galleries.
Since TEW Galleries’ primary mission is to represent artists we can only accept resale consignments on a highly selective basis. Please note that we only consider artworks by artists currently represented by the gallery. Other criteria for acceptance include current tastes, market conditions, and our ability to house and store artworks.
If an artwork is accepted commission fees will be charged.
If you are interested in our limited program of resales you can email Jules@tewgalleries.com. Be sure to include a good image of both the front and back with another photo of the label on the back of the piece. Also include the dimensions, inventory number and any information about the original sale. A copy of the original invoice is extremely helpful.
As an alternative option we encourage sellers to contact Ahlers & Ogletree, an Atlanta auction house on Miami Circle. http://www.aandoauctions.com/ Auction houses are invaluable for establishing the secondary market.
