Two Words, Two Generations, One Passion: James Randall Chumbley for The Hollywood Times

TEW Galleries is pleased to introduce Martin Whist in an exhibition of new paintings and watercolors. Whist studied fine art but chose to pursue a successful career as a Production Designer for the film industry. All along he painted, but in the last few years his art has become a larger part of his focus and these meditative works are the result. 

Unseen works by German Expressionist artist Otto Neumann (1895-1975) will be on exhibit from September 17 until October 16.

Lurking behind every work of art is a story. Sometimes it’s as brief as a breath, unconscious to even the artist and of no importance to the viewer. At other times it’s epic, looms large and the viewer is supposed to “get it.” Epic stories are familiar to us through novels, movies and television, but they also exist in painting. A fine example is Jacques-Louis David’s ‘Coronation of Napoleon’ (1805-06); a majestic 20 by 30 feet painting extolling the Notre Dame ceremony that officially made Napoleon an Emperor.
